Tom Cooper is a Managing Director of UBS and has responsibility
for UBS's business in the shipping and ports sector.
He joined the firm in 1988 and was involved in advising
clients in the UK and Nordic regions predominantly on m&a
and equity financing. He has also worked in the utility
sector.
He has been involved in several major transactions in the
shipping and cruise sectors including the IPO of Bona Shipholding,
Bona's acquisition of Smedvig Tankships, the merger of the
cross channel ferry businesses of P&O and Stena Line,
the privatisation of the Spanish shipping company Elcano,
the defence of ICB Shipping against a hostile bid from Frontline,
the sale of Bona to Teekay, a GDR equity issue for Strintzis
Lines of Greece, the sale of Ugland's stake in HUAL to Leif
Hoegh, the acquisition by Carnival of P&O Princess,
the demerger of Exmar from CMB, a $150m bond issue for OSG
and the sale of Soponata to Genmar. In the ports sector
he has worked on a number of assignments with the Port of
Singapore, including the acquisition of Hesse Noord Natie.
Prior to joining UBS, he worked at KPMG where he had a
number of clients in the shipping sector. He graduated from
Wadham College, Oxford University with a First Class Degree
in Mathematics.
