Georges Desvaux is a Director in McKinsey & Company's
Beijing office. Before transferring to Greater China in
1999, he worked in McKinsey's Paris and Eurocenter (Brussels)
offices for 11 years.
In China, Mr. Desvaux serves both Chinese and multinational
enterprises. His client work focuses on high technology
companies (telecommunications, electronics, bio-tech and
pharmaceuticals), as well as consumer clients, packaged
goods, retail, and financial institutions (insurance,trading).
The majority of his work in China focuses on strategy design
and organization performance, particularly in sales/distribution
and marketing. He has assisted Chinese and multinational
companies to develop growth strategies for the China market,
for example designing new channel strategies, designing
and implementing new sales and marketing organizations.
Mr. Desvaux is also helping several of the largest State
Owned Enterprises in China restructure to become market
oriented ¨C for example, developing new corporate strategies
including portfolio restructuring, as well as designing
and implementing new organization structures and management
processes. Finally he helps SOEs introduce modern governance
to ensure shareholder value creation. He also has helped
local governments in China design the vision and strategic
plan for the revival of urban neighborhoods including retail
landscape, business partnerships, and infrastructure.
Mr. Desvaux is a global leader in McKinsey's Marketing Practices,
and a world-wide expert in marketing spend effectiveness.
For industrials clients, Mr. Desvaux has helped clients
develop growth strategies in Asia, including branding, product/services
offer, channel management and organization redesign.
Outside his client work, Mr. Desvaux shares his expertise
and insights on the Chinese business environment, and in
particular, on marketing and distribution, as well as e-commerce
through speeches and workshops to select audiences and interviews
with predominantly local media. He also a trustee of the
Marketing Science Institute, a leading association of practitioners
and academics.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Mr. Desvaux was Europe sales
manager for Barry Controls, a specialist mechanical parts
manufacturer. Mr. Desvaux graduated from the Ecole Centrale
of Paris and holds M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Mr. Desvaux and his family live in Beijing.
